PORKKA specialist medical / laboratory refrigerators and freezers

Our medical and laboratory cabinet range offers quality, versatility, and simplicity in use and above all else reliability. Medical cabinets MC 70, MC 180, MC 300 and MC 150/150 and the laboratory cabinets LAB 300 and SC 75 continue to meet customers’ stringent demands for chilled storage. One of our latest innovations, is a special refrigerator with unique hygienic features, designed especially for use in operating theatres, clean rooms, sampling and research laboratories.

Continuous design and development has allowed us to update our larger medical refrigerators and freezers: MC 520, MC 720, MC 722 and MF 520, MF 720, MF 722 along with a combined temperature cabinet MC/MF 722. For laboratory use as well as research and testing facilities we are also introducing a new range of cabinets both refrigerators and freezers being: RC 520, RC 720 and RF 520 and RF 720. During design, input was sought from numerous operators and institutions who stated they required a high level of hygiene and ease of cleaning, easy to use controls with close temperature monitoring, built-in high/low temperature alarms with a provision to alarm back to a central alarm, environmental considerations ranging from power consumption (make it as low as possible) and use environmentally friendly materials to build the cabinets.
 

Quality and safety
All of our cabinets are designed and tested to European standard ISO 8561. Quality is controlled during production using ISO 9001 and we also manufacture using ISO 14001 to protect the environment. Full electrical and run tests are undertaken prior to despatch and all products are CE approved.

Accurate temperature control
All our cabinets are equipped with easy to read digital temperature displays. These are easy to use and the temperature can be adjusted by simply pressing buttons indicated, within set parameters. The control unit also features a built-in high/low temperature alarm, which is both visual and audible, it will activate after set period and automatically re-set once correct temperature has been attained, such as door has been left open.

Alarm functions
As a standard feature the control unit can be wired to a central alarm system. An RS-485 port can also connect it to a PC and with extra software diligence downloading can take place and records kept.

NEW ! Memory stick recording
In April 2010 a memory stick based temperature recording system will be available for Porkka cold equipment. The unit, attached in the front panel of the cold equipment and equipped with its own digital display, real time clock and calendar, records the temperature data.
With recording intervals of 15 minutes, there will be room for about one year’s data on the memory stick. Naturally, the recording interval can be adjusted according to the needs. Depending on the length of the recording intervals it will take no more than 15 seconds to transfer the data to the memory stick. As soon as the data has been recorded on the memory stick, the stick will be connected to the USB port of the computer and all the information can be seen on the display. The numerical data is easy to work up with Excel software.
A 24 hours battery back-up is available as an accessory.

Hygiene
Smaller medical cabinets and the LAB 300 are fitted with special internal bacteria-proof condensate water collectors. Larger cabinets are equipped with external automatic condensate water disposal systems. All internal/external surfaces are easy to clean. Shelving and on larger cabinets shelving pilasters and runners can all be removed without tools for all round sanitising, coved corners and one piece bases also assists by reducing possible dirt traps. Larger cabinets can be supplied with a choice of external surfaces to suit working applications.

Environment friendly materials
On our new series of cabinets we have concentrated on lowering energy consumption. At least 25 % against our older models and much, much more against many competitors. Every kW consumed allows Co2 to be emitted from a fossil burning power station, less energy used less Co2 is released in the atmosphere = a happier world. Porkka have eliminated the use of CFC and HCFC materials from their equipment many years ago, we are pleased to announce that they contain no OZONE depleting substances.

Ergonomic cupboards designed for storing medicines

Medicine cupboards are non-refrigerated and designed specifically for the storage of drugs and medicines. The exterior of the cabinets is manufactured from melamine board for simple all round easy cleaning. All doors and drawers are lockable. Shelves and door shelves, sized specially for drugs, are made of durable plastic. The model M1 can be combined with the MC 70 refrigerator. M1 includes a door switch operated illumination and an N-locker as standard. The specialist narcotics locker is equipped with a separate key different to the cabinet. M2 includes either a 6-drawer unit or a lower cabinet. Inner measurements of the drawers 508 x 376 x 74 mm are designed to accept medical trays.

Specialist medical refrigerators

Our medical refrigerators incorporate an electronic control system to ensure stable temperatures and control the automatic defrosting. A high visual temperature display on the front control panel allows for easy monitoring of the cabinet temperature. For extra security there is a visual and audible alarm warning to indicate either too high or too low temperatures within the cabinet. A facility for connection to an external alarm-monitoring unit is also standard equipment. Smaller medical refrigerators are fitted with internal bacteria-proof condensate water collection tanks, while larger cabinets (models 520 and 720) have automatic condensate disposal systems fitted as standard.

Porkka has been designed in co-operation with pharmaceutical companies, hospital architects and users themselves. Attention has been paid in particular to the special demands imposed by hospital conditions – safety and hygiene. Flexibility and an ergonomic, modern appearance have also been incorporated in to the equipment. MC 70 is also available without legs to be placed on top or inside fixtures, height being 720 mm. For adequate air circulation a 50 mm extra space on the top of the cabinet is required. The upper compartment of the MC 300 may be adjusted within a temperature range of +2 to +15 °C (±2 °C), the lower compartment can be controlled from +8 to +15 (±2 °C). The alarm system is controlled by the upper compartment. Model MC 150/150 is equipped with two compressors, one for each compartment. Temperature control and alarm systems are operated independently in each section.

High capacity medical refrigerators and freezers

MC 520/720/722 range was designed for storage of larger amounts of drugs and medicines. Safety is guaranteed by versatile alarm and control systems. Easy-to-read temperature display includes a built-in high/low temperature alarm, which is both optical and audible and will activate after a set period. An optional version for connection to a central alarm system or for a PC connection is also available. Latest technology features a top mounted refrigeration system. The flush ceiling mounted fan assisted evaporator is the latest high efficiency type, which uses less space and increases the overall interior height of the cabinets. A switch on the door shuts off the fan when door is open to reduce cold air loss. Medical freezers are fitted with fast and efficient automatic hot gas defrost systems.

Durable materials
Visible exterior surface of the cabinets is made from white polyester-coated sheet steel; inner surfaces and shelves with a capacity of 70 kg/ shelve are made from quality stainless steel grade 304.

Easy-to-clean construction
Porkka use the rounded edge of the door leaf to act as the handle and the area is easy to keep clean. Coved corners and a one-piece moulded base ensures there are no dirt traps and spillages are easy to clean from the base. Standard model consists of 4 anti-tilt slatted stainless steel shelves. All parts of the shelving system, including air circulation grids, can be removed by hand for easy all round sanitation.

Castors or legs
Castors, of which the front 2 are lockable, are fitted in the UK as standard. This allows the cabinet to be moved simply and easily for cleaning behind. Otherwise legs are round and height adjustable anywhere between 150 and 200 mm.

Door
Medical cabinets are equipped with a lock, situated in the middle of the upper front panel. Gaskets are easy to change pull out / push in type and the doors are self-closing with a 90- degree dwell open facility.
 

LAB 300 / SC 75 - refrigerators designed specially for the laboratory

Electronic control system
Porkka’s  improved electronic control unit ensures stable temperatures with an accuracy of ±1 °C. This is based on a 125-g test sample, measured in accordance with European standard EN 28187. The visual easy-to-read temperature display is simple to monitor and adjust if required by the push button controls. The control also offers the facility of a high/low temperature alarm being both acoustic and optical; there is also an alarm delay setting that can be adjusted. The unit is also fitted with a facility for connection to an external alarmmonitoring unit, and it can also be as an option connected to a PC via RS-485-port.

Materials
Manufactured using CFC/HCFC-free polyurethane insulation, the exterior of the cabinets is finished in durable white polyester-coated sheet steel. Ozone depletion rating is zero. The interior surface is stainless steel as are the shelves, which can be adjusted at 17-mm intervals to suit the operation.

Automatic defrosting
The cabinets defrost automatically. If necessary and under certain operating conditions, additional defrosts can be initiated manually. To meet strict demands on spark-proof cabinets, condense water is collected in a bacteria-proof container for disposal.

High level hygiene
The SC 75 has been especially designed to meet critical hygiene standards when cleaning both internally and externally. The interior of the cabinet is free from components that may complicate the sanitising process. The shelving system can be simply removed by hand for sterilisation. The exterior of the cabinet is easy to clean polyester coated sheet steel. Intelligent design of the rear wall of the cabinet allows the condenser to be hidden in a smooth surface case once again for easy of cleaning and the compressor chamber has no protruding objects to act as dirt/dust traps.

Versatile alarm features
SC 75 is equipped with a modern digital display with many built-in features:
• High/low temperature alarm both audible and visual.
• Adjustable alarm period.
• Option for connection to a central alarm system or for a PC.
 

Laboratory research and test refrigerators and freezers

Accurate temperatures
RC and RF research and test cabinets are equipped with air circulation grids on sidewalls and on the bottom to secure accuracy of ±1 °C (measured on a 125-g test package in accordance with European standard EN 28187.)
